Character and Family History
Family Members:
Yasashiku ((Father - 37)) Retired Jounin Hikari's father. Yasashiku is a jounin hailing from Takigakure no Sato. He has always been a very loving husband and an ever more loving and caring father to both of his daughters. At first his relationship with Hikari was a little of him being as careful as possible with her because of her handicap. Eventually that all changed and he started to respect her strength and willpower to continue being a shinobi even without having eyesight.
Hikaru ((Mother - 37)) Retired Jounin Hikari's mother. Hikaru is a jounin hailing from Kumogakure no Sato. She was a very nurturing and caring mother to both of her daughters. Except when it comes to Hikari, Hikaru is more strict, always pushing her to strive to be more. If it wasn't for Hikaru pushing and forcing Hikari to try harder, Hikari wouldn't be nearly as talented as she is now.
Akina ((Younger Sister - 12)) Genin Hikari's younger sister. Akina is five years younger than Hikari and unlike her older sister she was born with her eyesight. Hikari's relationship with Akina is very strong. Akina is one of the best friends that Hikari has in her life. Hikari always looks out for her younger sister and would do just about anything for her. The two have been known to spar with each other now and then as well.
Family History: On what should have been a very plain and simple missions for both Yasashiku and Hikaru turned out to be quite eventful. Yasashiku was sent by the leader of Takigakure no Sato to escort a few merchant travelers to Ta no Kuni in which another escort from Kumogakure no Sato would continue the rest of the way with the merchants. Luckily, that escort happened to be Hikaru. Hikaru was sent to pick up the merchants from the Taki escort and help the travelers finish the rest of the journey to Kumo. Fortunately, but to both Yasashiku and Hikaru's dismay, the merchants wished to stay at an Inn within Ta no Kuni, and wanted both escorts to stay the night with them. It was mid-day when the merchants checked into the Inn, which left Yasashiku and Hikaru hours of time to waste. Thanks to the ever flirting personality of Yasashiku and Hikaru's kind and sweet attitude the two got along quite well. Later that night when everyone was heading to sleep, Yasashiku and Hikaru were still up, of course the merchants assumed it was just to be ever watching and protective over them. That wasn't the case though, yes, it was part of it, but the two ended up falling in love with one another fairly quickly.
Unfortunately for the new found love between the two, each were respected jounin of countries miles and miles away. Even though there was the distance that was there to keep them apart, Yasashiku and Hikaru's love proved to be greater than any amount of distance. The two kept in touch by using the courier-nin writing letters weekly to one another. They met as often as humanly possible, which was only about six or seven times over the course of two years. Each of them volunteered every year to take a team for the chuunin exams, or to be as one of the representative jounin for their country which helped their chances of being together seeing as there were two chuunin exams per year. After the two years of not being with each other constantly, both Yasashiku and Hikaru decided to retire early as jounin and move to the same small village that they met at in Ta no Kuni. The leaders of each of their respective villages allowed each of them to leave and not be classified as missing-nin since each would aid their country if the time came to which they would be called upon. After living in the village for about two months, Hikaru became pregnant which would be their first born girl, Hikari.

Character History: Maruyama Hikari was born nine months after her mom Hikaru became pregnant. She was born in that small and peaceful village tucked away in Ta no Kuni. Yasashiku and Hikaru were so proud to be parents of such a beautiful baby girl. Not until later that they would find out from the medical-nin that the young girl they named Hikari was blind in both eyes and there was nothing that could be done about it. As any parent would, Yasashiku and Hikaru worried about how Hikari's life would turn out being blind, but they knew she'd eventually become just like any other girl. The two decided that they would just have to push their newborn daughter into becoming stronger, so she can lead a happy life.
It would have been nice to say that the first years of Hikari's life were just like that of any other young girl. Problem is, they weren't, they were far from it. The most difficult years of her life had only started. Until Hikari reached the age of four she was kept away from other children and in some cases even most people. It's not that her parents were trying to hide her from the world, they were just too protective and didn't want anything happening to their precious daughter. Hikari was now four though and things began to change. Yasashiku was against starting training of his daughter at such a young age with her disability, but Hikaru demanded it to be done. She knew that the only way Hikari would grow up to be strong is if she started training as early as possible, so it began.
A few short months after Hikari's fifth birthday, her baby sister Akina was born. With the birth of Akina, Hikari's training slowed down a little for a few months. Of course this hurt Hikari emotionally and she became jealous of the baby, but she quickly got over it. She knew that the baby needed more attention then herself and though she was five she believe she was old enough to train on her own. Every day for exactly five months, Hikari trained trying to improve her other four senses. Her parents helped when they could, but it was usually only Yasashiku as he wasn't needed as much as Hikaru would be with the newborn. For those five months, Hikari started to develop two things. One of them was starting to learn how to make her way around in just about any environment just from the sounds, smells, and even feel of things like the wind. The other was developing an amazingly strong willpower to continue training and becoming one of the hardest working kids, if not the hardest working kid imaginable.
Now almost six and a half Yasashiku and Hikaru returned to their training of Hikari yet again. Spending as much time possible with their vision challenged daughter. Since there was no actual ninja village located within Ta no Kuni, they taught Hikari the basics themselves. The three basic jutsu were almost far to easy for Hikari to learn as it only took about nine weeks for the girl to master each of the three flawlessly. Yasashiku and Hikaru both wanted to get their, what seemed like genius, daughter enrolled into a Ninja Academy so she could develop her skills further. Unfortunately they didn't have anyone that would take Hikari in to stay with in either Kumo or Taki.
A month after the seventh birthday of the young vision challenged girl a new village was created in Ta no Kuni. This village being Otogakure no Sato and that village had opened up an academy. It was created by one of the legendary sannin at that. Yasashiku and Hikaru knew that they needed to speak with this Orochimaru immediately and luckily for them at that moment in time Orochimaru was looking for new recruits and accepted Hikari into his school willingly. He even provided housing and everything that a young girl like Hikari would need as long as she swore her allegiance to him no matter what. Hikari swore her allegiance to Orochimaru immediately without even letter Yasashiku or Hikaru having a say in the matter. From that point on, Hikari lived in Otogakure, attended the ninja academy, and most importantly served her lord however she could.
Hikari was in the academy for less than six months before the teaching ninja realized that they had an extremely talented girl in their hands. The requirement to graduate was to master Kawarimi, Bunshin, and Henge which is usually a little bit of a challenge for most students. Hikari though wasn't 'most' and had already mastered those three simple techniques. Even though she had them mastered when entering the academy the teacher-nin wanted her to stay for at least a year to help develop her all around abilities. She started to became so adept with her hearing abilities of every individual sound that everyday objects made that if you didn't know her you wouldn't even know of her being blind.

After graduating the ninja academy at the top of her class by far, Hikari was ordered to do a few missions here and there around the village and surrounding villages. Most were trivial type missions like picking up trash, finding some lost good, and even escorting a kid from one village to another. Yes these were all very simple and Hikari knew it, but for her she used them to even further train her senses. Picking up trash when you can see it before you is one thing, but doing it while being blind is another. You need to develop an acute sense of hearing and smell even just to locate the biggest piece of trash. Hikari did missions like these with a few more difficult ones thrown into the mix every now and then for about a year and a half. Unlike most villages, Otogakure never really had teams, or at least Hikari was never placed on one. She didn't mind as she got to do missions by herself that proved her loyalty to Orochimaru and his goals. No one could take credit or blame if the mission was completed or failed when there was only one person assigned to it.
After completing somewhere around 27 D and 16 C ranked missions Hikari was finally given a more challenging, B ranked mission. She was finally be treating just like every other genin with the same skill that she possessed. Missions, that and training seemed to be the only thing the young girl ever did. The B ranked mission turned out to be more simple than expected as she only had to escort a rich man and his family from one village to another. Unlike expected there turned out to be no attacks on the life of any of that particular family so once she helped the family to their destination, Hikari came back to Oto and reported back to Orochimaru. Most of the genin her age would have lied and made up a story about how they were attacked, but with Hikari that would never be the case. She had become so loyal to her lord Otokage that she wouldn't ever lie to anyone that outranked her, even if it could lead to her getting recognized more and treated as if she were greater than other genin.
To Hikari, a life of serving Orochimaru no matter what the task was a very fulfilling life. It made her feel wanted, as if there was someone that needed her, of course she knew she was disposable for her lord's goals, but it didn't matter. After a few years of honing her skills even further until the point of where she was one of the, if not the most talented genin within all of Otogakure. She finally went to compete in the chuunin exams for the first time not long after her eleventh birthday. Hikari was assigned two other genin to be her teammates during the exams since it was supposed to be for teams of three. She welcomed and embraced the two warmly and actually became friends with one of the two, the other was more quiet and easily irritable. Her teammates were both 13 and male. The quiet and uptight one looked down at Hikari because of her age and lack of eyesight. The other, kinder genin was similar to Hikari in the fact that he was happy to be on a team, to have people around that could end that ever occurring loneliness that most in the Naruto Universe seem to have.
The first test of the exam was a written test, which would normally be a huge problem for someone that is blind, but it turned out to be simple for Hikari. She and her teammate had already planned a few things depending on if something like this happened, first he would get the answers by copying off of someone else and then he would just whisper them off one by one as she copied them. Luck happened to be on their side as her teammate was ordered to sit in the chair directly in front of Hikari. Everything was working perfectly so far and continued working in her favor throughout the second exam. The second exam took place in a forest and the objective was to get to the end point, but, each team was only given one scroll. A heaven or earth scroll and in order to qualify for the next exam you and your team had to somehow come across the other scroll by retrieving from another competing team. Easily as expected from Orochimaru-sama, the three moved on to the next round seemingly in an instant.
During the time after the second exam and the beginning of the third exam, Hikari had an entire month of time to spend within the confines of this Konohagakure village. She spent most of the time training and sparring with the kinder teammate of the two. Just about everyday they were found either laughing, training, or just discussing each others life so far. In that short period of time Hikari developed a small crush on the boy, it was more for the fact that he was her first true friend since.. well, since ever. They got along with each other wonderfully, even though they liked spending time with one another they still always tried to get their other teammate involved with them. The problem with that was the fact that the kid thought he was far superior than both Hikari and the other boy, which lead to him despising them, considering them as weak.
The day had finally come. It was the beginning of the third and final exam that would help determine who would become a chuunin. Ironically, Hikari was paired up against a Hyuuga clan member, a person that could see just about everything fighting a girl that has never been able to see. The boy was extremely quick, but thanks to Hikari's senses and quicker reflexes, she was able to dodge his taijutsu flawlessly. It turned out to be far easier than Hikari expected the first round to be, she avoided attacks here and there, countered with a genjutsu technique as was one of her specialties. The genjutsu placed her Hyuuga opponent into a state in which all of his senses were altered and failed to operate. It was a genjutsu that Hikari has been working on ever since she was very young, but she had never had to reveal it until this point. The genjutsu left the boy blind, deaf, and mute until Hikari attacked with a fearsome elbow blow to the stomach of the Hyuuga boy that sent him hurdling into a wall, knocking him out instantly. With that Hikari was declared the victory and silently went back to waiting to see the next match.
During the next match, which was unfortunately between both of her teammates, proved to be a moment that she would long remember into her future. The two seemed evenly matched until the unfriendly teammate stop playing around and started trying. Apparently throughout the entire fight, he was only testing the other boy to find out how strong he truly was. And unfortunately for the boy, and Hikari, it wasn't strong enough to stand even the slightest of chances against the other boy. By the time the dust had cleared, the kind boy was already defeated and laid on the ground without a single movement. Of course Hikari couldn't actually witness what had happened, but she could tell by the sounds and the sensing of each of their chakra. Before the jounin preceding over the match even said it, Hikari started to tear underneath the eye covering. The kind boy had been killed, Hikari's one true friend was killed by someone that was supposed to be a teammate.
Hikari's next match didn't even matter to her anymore thanks to the loss of her 'best' friend. Even with that emotion of the loss, she still continued to fight on as she knew she had to become as strong as she possibly could, not only for herself anymore, but to try and make the kind boy's dream realized, and that dream was to help complete Orochimaru's goals. Both fortunately and unfortunately, Hikari's other teammate was eliminated in the second round very quickly and thoroughly. She knew that he wasn't all that strong, sure he was stronger than the kind teammate, but the kind teammate wasn't strong at all and the word 'weak' truly applied to the boy. That didn't matter to Hikari though, it was the boy's personality that made her like him so much. There was a third and final round for Hikari, she believed she proved herself enough and halfway into the fight, she forfeited. She had no reason to win something like the chuunin exam, for it was not her goal.

The young blind girl had been promoted to the rank of chuunin thanks to her performance at the chuunin exams, even though she forfeited the last match. Hikari was now just one step closer to becoming of actual use to lord Orochimaru. Sure in the past she did little things for lord Otokage, but now that she was a chuunin she would be entrusted with more important tasks. Tasks that might even gain her some recognition from the only person she cared to please. To her dismay, Hikari wasn't assigned a mission until after she turned twelve. Since she had that incredible amount of time on her hands, she devoted all of it to becoming stronger and just to help that situation. She went and stayed with her parents and trained with their aid as well as spending some time with her younger sister, Akina.
It was good to be around her family once again since it's been many years since she had seen them. Not once did they ever come visit her since she entered the academy. Hikari always believed it was due to the care that was needed for Akina, but there was more behind it. Apparently part of the agreement of Orochimaru taking in Hikari, was that Yasashiku and Hikaru were not allowed to visit or even see Hikari unless he gave them permission beforehand. The thing that seemed most unusual to Hikari was that she was actually ordered by Lord Orochimaru himself to go and visit her parents. It was by far the most peculiar thing that Hikari has ever witnessed in the past 5 years of serving Orochimaru. During her time spent with her family, Hikari developed a friendship with her sister Akina and was proud of her once Hikari found out that Akina was entering Otogakure's academy within a week.
After returning from her first official mission as a chuunin, Hikari took the time to visit her younger sister at the academy. It wasn't much of a visit considering Hikari was just spying on Akina more than anything, just trying to figure out how well she was doing so far. And if Hikari heard correctly, which with her level of hearing she did, then Akina was excelling in one category, but yet failing horridly in another. Hikari being the caring person she is, decided that she'd just have to add a little more time in her day to take off and try helping her sister out to the best of her abilities. Thus the extremely hard work of training started for both of the girls, even though Hikari was older and a lot more experienced, the training proved to be quite helpful for her as well. The two trained every single day of the week, constantly, unless Akina was attending the academy, in which case Hikari would train by herself, only if she wasn't assigned a mission of course. They continued the training like off and on for somewhere around two full years.
By the time Hikari was fifteen, she had accomplish and unimaginable amount of missions with ease and never once having one failed attempt. She was the essence of being a genius shinobi. Always loyal to her Lord Otokage, respectful to all of those that outranked her, respectful to just about everyone. Despite her blindness, her natural talent for combat and the millions of hours of hard work that she had put into overcoming her 'disability' had truly showed why she was one of the more respected and feared chuunin within all of Otogakure. Just about everyone had known of Hikari's abilities, even the one person that truly mattered to her, Orochimaru. And most if not all were very impressed with them, and if there was anyone that doubted her, their minds quickly changed once they saw the level of difficulty the missions she had completed already at such a young age.
Perhaps the thing that worried and even made some fear about Hikari the most was the fact that out of everyone in Otogakure, she seemed nice, peaceful, and happy. Compared to other ninja throughout the village she was the oddity in the way she treated others and that she was almost always smiling. Some have thought that it's all an act and her true state is something far more insane or cynical, problem is, it's not. She's just a normally happy girl and why wouldn't she be, she gets to help her lord accomplish his goals, and that's all she has ever dreamed of doing.
You would think that with all of the skill that Hikari posses she would have already been promoted to the rank of jounin and given a team. The thing is that she didn't want a team, she didn't want more people that she might bond with and end up losing. She was offered the position time and time again, but each time she had declined it and mentioned that she's still up for doing the missions, which with her skill, it was allowed. Hikari continued this for a good two years more. She continued the day in and day out process of training until she collapsed, only to stop for a day if she was ordered on a mission. Maruyama Hikari is now seventeen and has been for a little while, and just about a couple of weeks ago she accepted the position of becoming a jounin. She's finally comfortable enough with her abilities that she'd be able to protect her precious people from just about anyone.

Jutsu:
Name: Kai [Dispel] Type: Genjutsu Description: A jutsu that destroys/cancels out an illusionary jutsu attempted on the user.
Name: Kinobori no Waza [Act of Tree Climbing] Type: Supplementary Description: Kinobori no Waza, the art of tree climbing serves a dual purpose. Taking part in Kinobori Shugyou (Tree Climbing Training) helps a ninja learn how to focus their chakra, and it also teaches them how to run up trees and walk up walls. The training helps the ninja learn how to focus just the right amount of chakra to a particular part of their body. The amount needed to climb is small but it must be precise. The feet are said to be the hardest location to learn how to master chakra focusing. So by gaining the art of this skill, the ninja will be able to have any jutsu available to him (theoretically) because she can focus chakra as needed. Next the chakra released must be properly controlled.
Name: Suimen Hokou no Waza [Act of Water Surface Walking] Type: Supplementary Description: A variation on the Kinobori no Waza (Act of Tree Climbing), the art of water surface walking allows a ninja to walk on water as if it was a solid surface. Focusing an even amount of chakra out of the soles of their feet, they can balance themselves on the very surface of the water.
Name: Kawarimi no Jutsu [Replacement Technique] Type: E-Rank, Ninjutsu Description: The Ninja locates a hiding spot, and quickly replaces him/herself with an item to hide in that spot. The opponent will become confused and the user will be able to attack the enemy when his guard is down.
Name: Henge no Jutsu [Transformation Technique] Type: E-Rank, Genjutsu Description: The user takes the Illusionary form of anything, as long as it neither is too huge or too small. The user must have seen the object or person to henge into it, and trained it for some time.
Name: Bunshin no Jutsu [Clone Technique] Type: E-Rank, Ninjutsu Description: The Ninja creates an illusionary copy of him/herself. The copy is merely an illusion and can't create any sound or attacks.
Name: Nawanuke no Jutsu [Rope Escape Technique] Type: E-rank, Supplementary Description: A basic jutsu taught at the Ninja academy. When a ninja is tied with rope, he can undo the knots and escape using this technique.

Hikari's Personal Jutsu:
Name: Kenboushou no Jutsu Type: A-ranked Genjutsu Description: A jutsu that causes one's opponent to forget jutsu and other information all the way to the very basic things such as their name. Depending on the opponents intelligence level the jutsu can be more devastating than on others.
Name: Heikoukankaku no Jutsu Type: B-ranked Genjutsu Description: A jutsu that affects the opponent's mind altering their sense of balance. It basically causes the same state as being drunk only except with the heavy amounts of alcohol. Blurred vision, slurred words, slow reaction time, easily aggravated, and horrible balance to where you can't even stand.
Name: Henahena no Jutsu Type: B-ranked Genjutsu Description: A jutsu that causes an opponent to feel very weak as if they've exhausted all of their chakra just about. Therefore stunning them for a while. Depending on the opponent it can vary between the amount of time that they are stunned for.
Name: Nutssumei no Jutsu Type: B-ranked Genjutsu Description: A jutsu that renders an opponent's sense of sight all but useless. It causes the effect in the opponent's mind that his or her eyes have been ripped from their skull. Causing pain and the lack of eyesight.
Name: Sonnutssu Choukaku no Jutsu Type: C-ranked Genjutsu Description: A jutsu that affects the opponent's mind altering their sense of hearing. While under the affect of the genjutsu the opponent will appear to rip their own ears off of their head. In turn causing extreme pain and the lose of hearing.
Name: Nutssugoshou no Jutsu Type: C-ranked Genjutsu Description: A jutsu that renders an opponent's sense of speech all but useless. It causes the opponent to believe that their mouth has melted together and fused that way, therefore not being able to communicate with their teammates. Plus it tends to freak some out as it is.
Name: Houkoukannen no Jutsu Type: C-ranked Genjutsu Description: A jutsu that affects the opponent's mind altering their sense of direction. Basically the opponent wouldn't know left from right, north from south, east from west. Could be useful if you were trying to mislead your opponent in which the direction that something like a kunai is flying towards them. Also would be good in a situation if needed an enemy to proceed in an opposite direction than their current.
Name: Ryoushiki no Jutsu Type: C-ranked Genjutsu Description: A jutsu that affects the opponent's mind altering their sense of what is correct. Basically it is more of an joke type jutsu then anything as it doesn't really alter much aside from the person's good sense of things. Then again, in battle it can be helpful considering it would cause great difficulty for the opponent when trying to think up a strategy. Making them to attempt something that wasn't the brightest of all 'moves' during a situation instead of doing the correct 'thing.'
